Ash Wednesday

Since today is Ash Wednesday, I thought that I would share a cute story, a true story, of a young child’s thoughts on “giving up” something during Lent.
This young child attended first grade at a Catholic school. Being Ash Wednesday, they attended Mass and received the ashes to their foreheads. Their Religion lesson for the day undoubtedly had to do with the penance they would choose for this Lenten season. While he and his mom stopped in at the grocery store on the way home from school, the mother asked her young son if he had given any thought to, or decided, what he would be giving up or doing for Lent. The child paused for a while as though he were in deep thought. After a few moments and a couple of more items in the grocery basket, he gave his mother his reply. He said, “We need to give up coming to this place!”
